We're still alive, but nobody can tell for how long...
The other half of it is to simply keep shooting and shooting, until you get the right shot. I took about a hundred shots of bees on that particular morning. This one just had perfect timing, focus and exposure, so it's the one I kept. There were countless others that were worthless.
A small part of the photo's effectiveness is the fact that I had the ability to process it perfectly, from the RAW file in Photoshop CS2. If I didn't have a powerful RAW converter like that, I would not have been able to accurately shoot digital in such rapidly changing morning light. In the other shot of the spider web at sunrise, which I took at about 6 AM, you can tell how different the light is.
