As an outdoor photographer I find myself in this young child's shoes, or lack therof, very often. For some reason loneliness and such emotions do NOT strike me. If I were seeking loneliness, I would lock myself in my room. But no, when I am out in the vast expanses of nature I feel a calm solitude, a beautiful separation. I am enveloped in and awed by the majesty around me. I do not wish for people to view this photo and think of loneliness or fear, or the emotion "isolation" in a negative sense. Just look at the photograph: Isolation in this sense is a purifying, uplifting sensation. Isolated from everything unexciting, isolated from everything ugly and degrading. Alone in a beautiful world...
I think that this magical isolation, that I so often feel, is more and more absent from people's lives today. I only hope my images can convince viewers to seek out "isolation" in nature.
I noticed this amoungst the submissions for the contest and it sure stood out.
Awesome work. Really effective and well composed. great contrast and DOF. Just amazing really.
Possible top 10 I reckon
I love not only the composition of the image and the way the figure gives a scale, but also I love that in your description you said something more than "yeah, entered in [contest] blahblah." to know that this picture (and, it would seem, all of your pictures) really mean something to you is a quality you have (and can evoke) that others are losing, I think. I love the way the clouds and the mountains swirl around the figure, not swallowing him but kind of leading your eye to him (her?).
This is a beautiful image; thank you for sharing it with us.
This is such a beautiful capture. I completely agree with your comments about isolation. Being alone in nature is something that not everyone is able to experience fully, which is sad.
I think however that this photograph has somewhat of a lost feeling to it becuase the person in it is a young child, all alone. Their posture, slightly leaning forward, is one denoting a search for something.
However you look at it though, this is a very well compositioned capture. Kudos to you mate for the DD, well done
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
